The group tour of the theatre is designed to provide visitors with an in-depth understanding of the history and organisation of the Croatian National Theatre. This unique experience offers participants the opportunity to sneak a peek behind the curtains and uncover the hidden stories of Croatia’s largest theatre building.
Founded in 1860, the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb initially operated in a new theatre building located at St. Mark's Square, fulfilling the long-standing aspirations of the Croatian people for a theatre offering plays in their native language. In 1895, the theatre was relocated to the grand building on what was then Sajmišni Square, where it continues to operate as a cornerstone of Croatian cultural life, having hosted numerous significant premières throughout time.
During the one-hour guided tour, participants will explore the auditorium, take photos on the stage, and walk through a rarely seen underground tunnel linking the theatre to the nearby Kolo building.
They will also learn more about the architecture of the Croatian National Theatre and gain insights into its rich history. During the tour, participants will have the opportunity to find out more about Croatia’s rich cultural heritage and explore the significance of theatrical art as an integral part of both the artistic and educational realms.
This immersive experience aims to provide them with a deeper understanding of the art of theatre and its significance throughout history and within society.
Tickets for the tour can be purchased at the Croatian National Theatre’s box office during standard working hours or via the theatre’s official website.
They are priced at €10, with a discounted price of €7 available for pupils, students, and retirees.
We advise arriving at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the tour.
The tour begins in the atrium of the theatre, with entry through the main doors.
Each group is limited to a maximum of 20 participants.
